Another Week, Another Office Flood

So for the second time in two months, my office on base flooded. When we got the 15 days straight of rains in June, one of the storms brought about four inches of rain that fell in about an hour. Our office flooded. Fast forward to this past Thursday. The tropical depression comes through and the same thing happens except we got around 9 inches that fell throughout the whole day. By mid-afternoon, the rains were starting to mount and the flooding began again. Our building has 5 offices and one cubicle area. So once we got all the computer equipment and paper off the floor, we headed to the house. You can imagine the smell we were greeted with on Friday morning. And no, we didn't work on Friday although I did pack up most of my office since I am a fan of neither black mold nor mildew. When I left, the carpet guys had a large vacuum going and were busy pumping water out. I have a feeling I am going to need more than Febreeze come Monday morning.

Here are some pics of how the area around our building looks on a normal basis.

As you can see, we have a nice walkway and big drainage ditches on each side.

Yeah....not deep enough.

Seriously, those drainage ditches are about 5 foot deep.

Anyone got a snorkel?

This was taken in our waiting area. And no, we normally don't provide feet soakings on a normal basis to our customers.

Here is the back door where there was at least 6 inches of water built up outside. Check out the video below of just how much water the door was holding back from coming into the building.

My office. You can hear the splashing in the video below.
Here is the front entrance of the building.
