The Osborns Return to BR

This past weekend, we weren't able to make it to Tuscaloosa to meet the new baby and see the proud new parents...so we did the next best thing. Road trip to Baton Rouge. Now, keep in mind this was the first time we had been to Tiger Stadium in 3 years (that's 3 with a 3 - in other words, too long). After the 9 hour trip to Baton Rouge (left at 7 PM Friday night, head hit pillow for sleep at 4 AM Sat. morning - keep in mind it should take 6 1/2 hours - I love road construction, I really do), K was up at her normal time (6:45) and was ready to roll. By 10, we were on campus and ready to tailgate with John Allen and the rest of the crew. By noon, we had spent way too much money stocking up on LSU stuff (picture kid in candy store). Of course, at 3, the rain comes in and it doesn't stop until 8 - we'll say it rained at least 2 inches.

The girls were troopers though and waited out the rain in the truck watching movies. At 8:15, the game kicked off and K was asleep by the middle of the 2nd quarter. And yes, she slept the entire rest of the game - hard sleeper like her dad. But Kerrie and Mo hung it out til games end, which was close to midnight. That gave us a grand total of approximately 14 hours of tailgating and game (10 AM to midnight) on approximately 3-4 hours of sleep. I love those girls.

Thanks to Kerrie's grandmother for letting us stay at her house and come and go at crazy hours, to the Old Man and his lovely bride for having us and for hooking us up with wonderful tickets (15 yd line, 20 rows up from the field), and to Kevin Stuart for being the only Alpha Psi not to make it to the game. It's cool Kevin, we only all get together about every 3-4 years - we still love you.

Oh yeah, there are no pictures from the game because it was still raining and I figured digital camera + water = no good. And yes, it only took us 6 1/2 hours to get back home on Sunday. And, of course, you can darn well bet the picture above just warms my father's crimson tide colored heart. Love you Pop!

K doing her thing at the tailgate - before the rains swept in.

Once it clouded up, we went under cover. Notice Kerrie sitting in the red chair and then look to her left. That would be a little 3 year old having her afternoon nap. That child, once she gets to sleep, can snooze anywhere.

The Office

The new office (also known as Karlyle's old room downstairs) is starting to take shape. The biggest addition are two LSU prints I have had stored in a cardboard box for the last two years due to the little old DC house's lack of wall space. And FYI - Hobby Lobby doesn't play around with framing - a little over $100 for each. More pics will follow as we continue to decorate and improve.

The Newest Addition

Savannah Malyn Osborn, the first child for my brother Derek and his wife Lynn, was born last Wednesday, October 18th at 5:10PM. She weighed in at a hefty 4 pounds, 14 ounces and measured 17 1/2 inches (yeah...little, as you can tell by the size of Derek's hand to her head). Considering all of Lynn's bedrest and the very early birth, Lynn and Savannah are doing great - I think the jury is still out on Derek. Everyone was able to go home this past Sunday and are settling in nicely at their house in Tuscaloosa. Head over to their blog (derekandlynn.blogspot.com - link is on the right) for more updates and pictures. The ones here I stole from their site and from some Aunt Rhonda sent me. Congrats Derek and Lynn! We miss you guys!

The happy parents.

Did I mention she was little?

Crash on the Playground

So we spent a little time in the ER on Thursday morning. K had a little crash on the playground at her school and caught the edge of the stairs on the slide. It left a pretty large gash on the old forehead that would have had to crack some bone to go any deeper - in other words, we saw a lot more of her head than we would ever want to. But thankfully, she did not have to get stitches - they poured some stuff that looked like rubber cement into the wound and held the skin together for about a minute. And magically, the 1/2 dollar-size gash became the cut below - I'm still amazed that glue could hold that big of a wound together - ain't technology great. So, no stitch marks and they tell us that the scar should be in her hairline when she gets older. They tell us in 7 days the glue will flake off and then all we have to do is keep sunscreen and Vitamin E on it to help the scar. Incredible.

Anyway, as you can imagine, K was pretty freaked out and still refuses to look at it in the mirror - she says it will make it worse if she looks - can't really argue with that logic. But on Thursday night, as we are watching one of the Harry Potter movies, she informed us that she now had a scar on her head just like Harry. Guess that's one way to look at it.

Oh, the picture was taken during her nap today because she refuses to let me take a picture of it while she is awake - apparently, in her world, that will make the "bo-bo" worse.

And let me just tell you about the ER at the hospital that is a few minutes from the house. It has two ERs - one for adults and one for kids. The kid's side has an aquarium, a glass wall with bubbles going up it, and has a bunch of sailboat sails hanging on the wall. Way too cool - of course, Kerrie didn't have time to enjoy because before she could fill out the first page of paperwork, they already had K back in a room taking her vitals. We were in and out within 90 minutes. Quite impressed. Almost as impressed as we were with the room K was in - it had a flat-screen with speakers built into the hospital bed. So, as they are deadening the gash and gluing it back together, K was just kicking it watching Bob the Builder. And then she made new friends because they gave her a purple popsicle as we left.

But still, K has told us she doesn't want to go back there because "that hospital hurts Daddy." Can't really argue with that logic either.

The Duck Hat

K made a duck hat this week that she is quite proud of.

Alabama Politics

Just Beautiful - Thanks to Derek for bringing this to my attention. I must go now - need to go clean my fo-ah (4) shotguns.

Road Trip

This past weekend, the girls and I made the 12-hour trip to Tuscaloosa for my brother and sister-in-law's (Derek and Lynn) first baby shower and for my 10-year high school reunion. K and Mo were excellent travelers and Kerrie and I gave new meaning to nighttime driving. We left San Antonio at 9:30 PM on Thursday night and got to Tuscaloosa at 9:45 AM Friday morning. We then left Tuscaloosa at 2:30 PM Sunday afternoon and drove up to our driveway in San Antonio at 3 AM Monday morning. Thankfully, we all had the day off on Monday to rest up for work.

So, back to Friday, we get in town and Derek and Lynn have no idea we are coming in town. Pop tells Derek to meet him for lunch and then we drive up. I think we got him. He was much surprised. Then, we had to figure out how to tell Lynn that we were in town without making her blood pressure skyrocket and send her into labor (background - she is about 5 weeks out of being due, has been on bed rest for about the past 6, and has been having to check her blood pressure every 15 minutes or so since then - in other words, a little excitement = baby arriving way early). So after lunch, we head back to Derek's and he carries Karlyle in and says, "Lynn, look at the baby I found outside." Way funny. Friday night, we also made it to Tokyo - the best Japanese there is. Those are the restaurant pics below.

On Saturday, Derek and I got to watch LSU football together for the first time since the Peach Bowl against Miami last December - the score ended up being about the same. That night, we went to the baby shower (the pic above was outside the lakehouse)and then Kerrie and I headed over to my 10-year reunion. I got to see quite a few of my old friends from high school and Kerrie and I got to dance for the first time in a while. Of course, by midnight, we had to go home because we were tired - oldness has set in.

Overall great weekend - the 24 hours of driving was definitely worth it.

The good rider - this was Friday morning after about 10 hours in the truck.

The lovely bride taking over - notice the speed - she must have been behind a semi.

We kept trying to take a picture of her but everytime the flash would go off this was the result.

Me and Kerrie - we just had rice for the first time since March.

Yep - the shower had cake.

And here are the results.
